The shooting death of a man in Aspen Hill Wednesday appears to have been the result of a game gone bad.

A source close to the investigation says it appears Christopher Edwards, 20, Andrew Ramos, 19, and another young man were playing a military style game and were using a rifle.

At some point during the game the third man, Hugo Yupe, 21, was shot in the upper torso. He died.

Sources say Ramos and Edwards told detectives the fatal gunshot was an accident.

At about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, police allege that Edwards, Ramos and Yupe were inside a home in the 13200 block of Superior Street. Yupe was shot in the upper torso. The victim was dead when officers arrived.

After the shooting, police say Ramos left the scene while Edwards remained in the home. Both were later taken into custody.

Edwards has been charged with one count each of second degree murder and reckless endangerment. He is being held without bond. Ramos was only charged with reckless endangerment and is being held on $20,000 bond.

Police say, after the shooting, Edwards stayed in the house and called for help but Ramos left. Neighbors say police caught him down the street.

Based on the charges it appears Edwards was holding the rifle. He is facing charges of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment. Ramos is facing the single charge of reckless endangerment.
