WASHINGTON (AP) - A D.C. Council panel has approved a bill that would roll back some rules for possessing a gun in the District of Columbia.

Councilmember Phil Mendelson on Wednesday pushed the bill through the Judiciary Committee.

The changes in the bill include eliminating a vision test, a five-hour training course, ballistics testing and a ban on some types of ammunition.

Rules about gun ownership in Washington are still being adjusted as a result of the 2008 Supreme Court decision that ended a 32-year-old handgun ban in the nation's capital.

The bill approved Wednesday faces an uncertain future when it comes up for debate in front of the full council.

The bill does not change registration requirements and would not change laws that prevent city residents from registering one handgun a month.
