D.C. Council to loosen some gun possession rules
March 6, 2012 - 03:10 pm
WASHINGTON (AP) - The D.C. Council has given preliminary approval to a bill that would roll back some rules for possessing a gun in the District of Columbia.
The D.C. Council voted Tuesday in favor of the bill. The changes in the bill include eliminating a vision test as well as ballistics testing and a ban on some types of ammunition.
Rules about gun ownership in Washington are still being adjusted as a result of the 2008 Supreme Court decision that ended a 32-year-old handgun ban in the nation's capital.
The bill approved Tuesday does not change registration requirements. It will get a final vote before being sent to the mayor for his approval.
