Life is sweet for Jacqueline Mars, and not just because she's the heiress to a candy fortune.
Mars, the daughter and granddaughter of the founders of the Mars, Inc., ranks as the richest person in the D.C. area and the 52nd richest person in the world, according to Forbes magazine's new list of the world's billionaires.
A resident of The Plains, Va., Mars is reportedly worth $13.8 billion.
Mitchell and Steven Rales, the co-founders of the Danaher Corporation, rank in the top five of the D.C. list, while local team owners Ted Lerner (Nationals), Stephen Biscotti (Ravens) and Dan Snyder (Redskins) also rank among the area's wealthiest.
Steve Case, the founder of AOL, and the Marriott brothers, Richard and Bill Jr., made their way into the wealthy cadre.
Carlos Slim, the Mexican national and CEO of Telmex and America Movil, remains on his perch at the top of the list. His personal value is approximated at $69 billion.
