Giant American flag hoisted on Route 1 in Woodbridge
This morning, Prince William County drivers watched a giant American flag get hoisted up along the Jefferson Davis Highway.
It's a project that's been in the works for more than two decades and it comes with a six-figure price tag.
Hilda Barg, a former Prince William County supervisor, has been dreaming of this day for twenty years, a giant American flag rising above Route 1 in Woodbridge.
"It symbolizes our freedom, our dignity, the true meaning of being an American," she says. "It's a tribute to fallen service members, police and firefighters."
Now, 13 broad stripes and 50 bright stars are gallantly streaming, thanks to a $200,000 donation from Lustine Chrysler Dodge.
There are many American flags on display along Route 1 in Woodbridge, but this one is the granddaddy of them all. It stands 80 feet in the air and it's 30 feet by 50 feet in size.
Now that it's flying, it's visible from a mile away.
