K Street construction to last through 2013
March 16, 2012 - 08:46 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - A section of a busy downtown street in Washington is getting a makeover that could impact traffic until the summer of 2013.
The District Department of Transportation says construction on K Street between 3rd and 7th streets is scheduled to begin later this month and will take about 15 months to complete.
The project includes utility replacement work, streetlight and traffic signals upgrades and repairs and resurfacing for sidewalk, driveways and alley entrances.
The construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There may also be work on weekends.
Officials say at least one lane will be kept open in each direction on K Street, and the roads that cross K Street, within the project area.
