Lorton car thefts investigated after 10 reported in one neighborhood
Fairfax County Police are looking for a suspect and five stolen cars that are suspected to be part of a car theft spree in a Lorton neighborhood.
Authorities say that as many as ten cars have been stolen between Jan. 18 and March 12 off Silverbrook Lane in Lorton.. Five of those cars have been recovered, but the rest still have not been located.
The common denominator in each theft, police say, is that the cars that have been stolen were left running in their driveways between 5 and 8 a.m. The stolen cars range from a 2004 Toyota Corolla, worth about $8,000, to a $50,000 2012 Acura TL.
Along with posting fliers and warnings about the suspected car thief, authorities are cautioning residents against leaving their cars unattended while running.
Anyone with information concerning the thefts is urged to contact Fairfax County Police at (703) 691-2131.
