March 10, 2012 - 04:37 pm
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - The father of a man charged with robbing a bank in Frederick says his son had just been released from a psychiatric ward, where he was being treated for drug addiction.
Thomas Schultz tells The Frederick News-Post that his son, Andrew Schultz, had been released from a Montgomery County psychiatric ward less than 24 hours before the robbery at a SunTrust Bank branch.
Police arrested 25-year-old Andrew Schultz on Friday afternoon after finding him hiding under a pool deck in a housing subdivision.
Police say the bank was shut down for three hours after the robbery.
Thomas Schultz says his son was being treated for crack cocaine addiction but checked out of the ward on Thursday. He says his son wanted money to buy drugs.
