Medal of Honor: 16 of 82 living recipients arrive for National Medal of Honor Day
At Reagan National Airport today, a crowd gathered to cheer on a rare breed of American heroes.
Sixteen Medal of Honor recipients arrived for a weekend of events and recognition.
And the busy airport-- filled with music, balloons, and American flags--came to a standstill with a standing ovation.
They're in town for National Medal of Honor Day, March 25.
Only 3,500 service members have been awarded the Medal of Honor since the Civil War.
And only 82 recipients are alive today.
Several active duty service members came to salute these 16 men.
While in Washington this weekend, the Medal of Honor recipients will participate in a special wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery.
They'll also be honored at several receptions at Reagan National Airport,
