Oldtown, Md. shooting suspect held after property dispute
OLDTOWN, Md. (AP) - State police say an Oldtown man has been charged with manslaughter for allegedly shooting another man in a western Maryland property dispute.
Sixty-nine-year-old Alexander Malaska was being held Thursday on $300,000 bond. He is accused of fatally shooting 43-year-old Dennis Liller with a rifle Wednesday night.
Police say the shooting stemmed from a dispute that began in September over three trees located between Malaska's house and the home of Leroy Robertson on Pack Horse Trail. Malaska's son Michael allegedly cut down the trees.
Investigators say Robertson's daughter and Liller went to Malaska's house Wednesday night. Police say Liller and Michael Malaska got into a fistfight outside.
Witnesses told police that Alexander Malaska then came outside and fired a shot that hit Liller in the upper torso.
