Puerto Rico primary: Rick Santorum says 'Learn English' for statehood

Three days ahead of the Puerto Rico primary, Rick Santorum said in a local newspaper that he supports the island's right to self-determination about their status as a United States territory.
That's not all he said, though, Reuters reports. Santorum said that his support for Puerto Ricans deciding whether or not they want to become a state hinges partially on their language of choice.
"English has to be the principal language," Santorum told El Vocero. "Like any other state, there has to be compliance with this and any other federal law."
The only problem with that statement, though, is that the United States Constitution does not require any state to adopt an official language.
