Schools to choose beef with 'pink slime' or not served to students
March 15, 2012 - 07:09 am
The Agriculture Department is expected to announce Thursday that schools will be given the option to choose which beef to serve to students.
Officials say schools will be able to choose between beef patties made with an ammonia-treated filler referred to as “pink slime” or bulk ground beef without the filler.
Some ground beef is exposed to ammonium hydroxide gas to kill bacteria.
