Wilbert Garcia, abducted nine-year-old boy, found safe in Nevada; mother arrested
Updated: March 16, 2012 - 01:01 pm
Wilbert Garcia, the 9-year-old boy who was the subject of a statewide Maryland Amber Alert on Thursday night, was found safe in Reno, Nev. early Friday morning.
Wilbert, who Prince George's County Public Schools officials say also went by Wilbert, disappeared on Thursday after his mother, Silvia Garcia, allegedly took him from Dodge Park Elementary School in Landover.
Prince George's County Police say that Wilbert was unharmed when he was found. Silvia is now in custody in Nevada.
The Associated Press reports that Silvia did not have custodial rights to Wilbert.
An Amber Alert was issued late Thursday night and a lookout was put out for a 1993 black Mercedes that authorities believe Garcia was driving. It was later found in Bladensburg and towed away by police.
Authorities are now trying to determine if either Silvia or Wilbert had any connection to Reno.
