BALTIMORE (AP) - An attorney for one of two brothers accused of beating a black teenager while patrolling for a Jewish neighborhood watch in Baltimore say he'll show it was self defense.

Opening statements were presented Wednesday in the bench trial for Eliyahu and Avi Werdesheim, who are charged in the 2010 beating of a 15-year-old boy in Baltimore.

Prosecutor Kevin Wiggins says the teen was heading to a doctor's appointment when the brothers confronted him.

He says one threw the teen to the ground and the other hit him in the head.

The brothers' attorneys told the judge the teen was holding a nail-studded board and there will be questions raised about the identification of one brother.
