Bernell Gripper charged in Alexandria home break-in
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Fairfax County police say an Alexandria man has been charged in the burglary of an 82-year-old woman's home.
Police say they arrested 45-year-old Bernell Gripper after tests matched his DNA with evidence found at the scene.
Gripper has been charged with abduction, robbery, burglary and disabling a telephone line to prevent help.
Authorities say the burglary occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 in a home on Russell Road in Alexandria.
Police say the man smashed a bedroom window, entered the home and forced the woman into another room.
They say he demanded money, disabled the home telephone and took the woman's cellphone and car keys.
Police say he fled in the victim's car.
