Bill Maher's 'Real Time' extended on HBO through 2014
Daybreak Daily’s afternoon peek at the pop-culture world finds an inexplicably trending cat fight, the Lower Ninth, other things, and the mystery music video.
BILL MAHER: Like him or not, he’ll be sticking around, per The Hollywood Reporter, “The premium cable network has renewed his political talk show, Real Time With Bill Maher, for two more seasons, a likelihood first reported in The Hollywood Reporter’s March cover story. The three-year deal with the network will keep Maher’s show on the air through 2014. . . Thus far this season, his Friday night series has been watched by 4.1 million viewers weekly, his highest viewership gross in three years.” http://bit.ly/IPzQFW
WHATEVER: Sheesh. This has been trending all day for whatever reason. Rosie O’Donnell somehow is offended that Lindsay Lohan may portray Liz Taylor in a Lifetime movie, per E!, “The former Queen of Nice elaborated further, "I don't think she's right for the role, and I don't think she's capable at this point of doing what's needed to portray that character. I think the interest level in her has waned significantly." http://eonli.ne/JF7CBw
MEANWHILE: Of course this follows, per TMZ, “Rosie O'Donnell is in no position to bash Lindsay Lohan -- at least according to Lindsay's loyal father, who claims Rosie's a washed-up failure at life ... who only stayed famous because she adopted a bunch of kids. Michael Lohan tells TMZ, "Who the hell is Rosie O'Donnell to judge anyone, especially Lindsay, who has far more talent than Rosie ever had?" http://bit.ly/I8SvB2
REALLY GOOD READ: Of New Orleans, Tat-2, Gene Thacker, bounty hunting, and “Big Easy Justice,” a 10-part series on Spike on Tuesday nights, per the New York Times, “For two weeks now he has also been the central figure in “Big Easy Justice,” a 10-part series on Spike on Tuesday nights. Mr. Thacker is not the first person in his line of work to land a reality series. “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” on A&E, has been around for eight seasons. But he may be the most heavily tattooed.” http://nyti.ms/IcVIhW
NO CUTTING: It’s about a small-town kid wanting more, per Deadline Hollywood, “Armie Hammer, Sir Ben Kingsley, John Malkovich, Michael Sheen and Teresa Palmer are set to star in the crime thriller, Cut Bank. Scripted by Roberto Patino from a script that made the 2009 Black List, the pic will be directed by Matt Shakman (“Mad Men,” “Six Feet Under”), making his feature directing debut.” http://bit.ly/IBPYMg
JUST KIDDING: Well, kind of, per Rolling Stone, “After his Coachella performance this weekend, Gotye took part in an intimate concert and interview. . .hosted by L.A. radio station Star 98.7, he sat down with one of the station's DJs, who asked him about his reaction to the Glee cover of "Somebody That I Used to Know." "I woke up and found myself in a bit of a furor this morning," the singer explained, referring to his supposed slamming of the show's version of his hit.” http://bit.ly/I8Y4PO
NEVER MIND THE OTHER STUFF: Ahem, per Deadline New York, “Mel Gibson is now in serious discussions to play a supporting role in Machete Kills, the Robert Rodriguez-directed sequel that will bring Danny Trejo back as the blade-wielding former Federale title character. The film will be released by Fox.” http://bit.ly/Jw2yjO
LOCAL ANGLE: New Beatles album released, per the Huffington Post, “Recorded at Washington Coliseum on February 1964 to an overbooked teenage audience of 8,000 screaming fans, the 12-song set included "She Loves You" and "I Saw Her Standing There." The show came just two days after the group's landmark appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show.” http://huff.to/I8IWm2
EYE CANDY: Just the facts, per Us Weekly, “Emma Roberts wanted to see off the end of Coachella in scantily-clad style! On Sunday, the 21-year-old showed some skin in a strapless Boys+Arrows Fringe Bandeau top (that retails for $115 at planetblue.com) and short, unbuttoned and rolled-down denim cut-offs.” http://bit.ly/IfUZsb
