Capital Beltway expansion to top $5.8 billion
April 5, 2012 - 10:20 am
A $5.8 billion construction project to widen the Capital Beltway in Maryland should top the state’s priority list, according to national transportation research group TRIP.
The widening, which would span from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to the American Legion Bridge, is the first project to stem from the $800 million investment in easing traffic in the area, The Washington Post reported.
In addition to the widening, there is also consideration of adding high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes, the Post reported.
TRIP listed 10 projects that it cited as top prorities--the projects totaled around $13.7 billion.
