A State Department employee has been arrested by Fairfax County Police on 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

The employee, Carl Carey, 54, was arrested at his Lorton, Va., home on Usher Drive.

He declined to comment to ABC7.

According to his LinkedIn page, Carey is a graduate of New York University and has a master's degree in public administration from Troy University.

His profile said he started working for the State Department in 2003 and worked his way up to a senior position of project manager in the IT department.

Police in Fairfax alerted the State Department after issuing a search warrant on Carey's home in 2010. The State Department said Carey was suspended without pay shortly after, though he wasn't arrested until a year and a half later, on March 13, 2012.

Officials cannot confirm if any of the alleged illegal activity was taking place on federal government property.

Carey, who has a state department security clearance, is the second State Department employee facing arrest recently. Diplomatic security officer James Cafferty pleaded guilty in January to transporting child porn.

Parent Cedric Bullock is stunned to learn from ABC7 that his neighbor is now back at home waiting for a court hearing after posting bond

“I would hope they would let the neighborhood know,” Bullock said. “It's just really disturbing."
