It was a tragic accident. Five Battlefield High School students were riding in a car in Prince William County when it slammed into a deer and a tree. Two were killed – 15-year-old Kendra Tucker and 15-year-old Savannah Mauritidis.

A 14-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy were also injured.

The driver of the car, 19-year-old Christopher Suarez, survived and Monday went on trial for involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving.

Prosecutors say they were doing something called “hill riding” - using speed and no seat belts to accentuate the thrill of hilly Log Mill Road. A Chrysler expert testified the car was going 68 mph when it hit the deer.

One survivor says the group was going to buy marijuana. Suarez' brother who was in the car at the time and was dating Savanna, says they were heading to a look-out point.

Savannah's dad testified that earlier in the evening, he fell asleep only to get a wake-up call from police that his daughter had been in a car crash.

She would succumb to her injuries four days later
