Two Washington men have been found guilty in the 2007 murder of a man in Northeast Washington.

Curtis McKnight and Robert Pumphrey Jr., both 23, were convicted March 30, for their role in the shooting death of 33-year-old Raynard Jennings.

McKnight was convicted of first-degree murder, obstruction of justice and weapons charges, while Pumphrey was found guilty of second-degree murder and weapons charges.

They each face more than 40 years in prison.

The shooting happened on Oct. 9, 2007, in the 500 block of 56th Street NE, near the intersection of 56th and Eads streets NE. Prosecutors say that in the early morning hours, McKnight and Pumphrey got into an argument with Jennings while he sat in a Cadillac. During the argument, police say Jennings got out and started throwing things out of the trunk for an unknown reason.

When Pumphrey retrieved a semi-automatic pistol from the passenger side of the car and gave it to McKnight, police say Jennings began to run away. McKnight then fired seven shots, hitting Jennings six times, including in the back of the head. He died at the scene.
