A ban on Sunday alcohol sales in the District of Columbia could soon be coming to an end if one member of the D.C. Council has his way.

Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham says he's likely to recommend Sunday sales as part of the city's new budget. He says that the move could bring in an additional $710,000 on sales tax revenue.

The proposal to sell alcohol on Sundays is intended to be used as leverage to replace D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray's proposal to extend bar hours.

In late March, Graham expressed concern about the mayor's proposal to keep D.C. bars open for one extra hour, saying that the additional time could cause more crime, noise and traffic in District neighborhoods.
