Dennis Dyer arrested, charged with abusing two boys
A man who allegedly sexually assaulted two young boys more than 30 years ago in Prince William County has been arrested and charged with abusing the victims, police say.
Police arrested Dennis Reed Dyer, 58, of Manassas, and charged him with two counts of taking indecent liberties with children.
Prince William County police began investigating the alleged sexual assaults in January 2012. Police said the first victim, who was 6 or 7 at the time of the alleged abuse, was sexually assaulted in 1978 by Dyer, who was the victim’s T-ball coach at the time.
During the investigation, police learned that Dyer sexually assaulted another boy, who was also 6 or 7 at the time of the abuse, police say.
Prince William County investigators are hoping that the release of Dyer's photographs could jog the memories of other victims and expect more to come forward.
Dyer allegedly sexually assaulted the victims at a home in Manassas. He is currently detained without bond. There is no statute of limitations on sex crimes in Virginia.
