Eight men convicted in 1984 D.C. murder case back in court

WASHINGTON (AP) - Lawyers for a group of men who went to prison for a 1984 murder in Washington are challenging their clients' convictions.

A Superior Court judge is expected to begin a hearing Monday during which attorneys will argue that their clients' convictions should be overturned or that they should get a new trial.

Attorneys for the men say witnesses that testified at trial have now recanted, and there's evidence another man committed the crime.

Eight men were convicted at trial of murdering 48-year-old Catherine Fuller on Oct. 1, 1984.

The murder in northeast Washington was particularly brutal, and Fuller had been beaten and sodomized.

Arguments are expected to last four weeks.
