KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - An East Tennessee man has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for threatening House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia and his family.

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Varlan sentenced 63-year-old Glendon Llewellyn Swift of Lenoir City on Tuesday.

The FBI said in an affidavit that Swift left two messages at the Republican congressman's suburban Richmond, Va., office the evening of Oct. 27, 2011, threatening to "destroy" Cantor, rape his daughter and kill his wife.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported Swift's lawyer told the judge his client was drunk and grieving the death of his wife when the calls were made.

When the FBI came to Swift's home days later, he admitted making the calls.

Varlan ordered Swift to undergo alcohol abuse and mental health treatment.
