Locals celebrate Good Friday
On one of the holiest days of the year, Catholics in the Washington D.C.-area are marking Good Friday with massive processions and reenactment of the Passion of Christ.
A very diverse group in Montgomery county is holding pilgrimage or sorts with statues and pictures. After a short prayer service, they walk through the streets of Takoma Park from one church to another.
A well-rehearsed production, in full dress and regalia, parishioners try to capture the drama and the story that has been told for more than 2,000 years.
"It's very important for me and my family," says Annie Zemeka, a parishioner.
The religious message is tied with local issues this parish is currently dealing with.
"Because of their immigration status,” says Elias Blanco, Our Lady of Sorrows Church. “With in the procession."
