Mickel Tyrone Young in custody for baseball bat attack at Md. daycare
Updated: April 27, 2012 - 02:10 pm
Prince George's County Police say a 26-year-old man is in custody following a baseball bat attack at a Landover daycare center, and a police spokesperson tells ABC7 that the attacker was likely under the influence of PCP at the time of the attack.
Police say Mickel Tyrone Young entered the "It's a Family Affair" daycare center, located in the 300 block of Garrett Morgan Boulevard in Landover, Thursday morning and became violent after staff members wouldn't let him use a telephone.
Police say he then took a bat from a security guard and beat him, causing serious injuries before leaving.
He returned a short time later and used the bat to break windows at the daycare center before taking an employee's car keys and driving off.
Young was taken into custody near FedEd Field and brought later to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
The security guard, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. No children witnessed the incident or were harmed.
Young has been charged via a warrant.
