FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - A Frederick man is recovering from burns he received while trying to save his dog from a fire that destroyed his house.

The fire broke out in the home Tuesday evening. Calvin Stone Jr.'s father says his son tried to save his Doberman pinscher, Bolt, but was knocked down when he opened the door. The dog died in the fire.

Frederick County fire and rescue officials say Stone was flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center burn unit in Baltimore.

The county fire marshal's office says it took some 35 firefighters about 15 minutes to control the blaze, but the two-story house was destroyed. Damage is estimated at $150,000. The fire started in a first-floor bedroom, but the cause is still under investigation.
