The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that the jury acquitted 54-year-old Darrell Hicks of first-degree murder on Friday.

Prosecutors say Hicks stabbed 45-year-old Darrin Pressman six times in May 2011, then stashed the body in a bedroom before the victim's girlfriend visited days later and found the decomposing remains lying partly inside a closet.

The jury wasn't allowed to hear about a confession Hicks allegedly made to police. The judge threw out the statement because police had continued questioning Hicks after he invoked his right to remain silent.

Hicks didn't testify during the trial.
