DC Taxicab Commission Chairman Ron Linton says district cabs are likely going to start charging $2.16 per mile instead of the current $1.50 as soon as April 21.

He tells The Washington Examiner (http://bit.ly/HcXE8P) that he expects the new fares to win commission approval next week.

But even with the new rates, there may be a stretch where some cabs will be charging the old rates and others are charging the new ones.

Linton says it will take until May for all of the cabs to have their meters recalibrated. Under the new fare rules, some additional fees like the $1 fuel surcharge will be eliminated.
