New York woman donates kidney to boss, then gets fired
A New York woman says she may sue her former employer after she donated a kidney to her boss...but was then fired.
Debbie Stevens, 47, said her boss convinced her to donate a kidney so that she could move up the transplant list. Stevens, a divorced mother of two, on Friday filed a complaint with the New York State Human Rights Commission against her employer, Jackie Brucia.
Stevens said she was pressured to return to work even though she had complications during her recovery. She said she was fired after complaining about the way she was being treated.
Brucia is one of the controllers for the Atlantic Automotive Group—she hired Stevens as an assistant in 2009.
