Silver Spring crash kills one, injures one, closes lanes of Capital Beltway
Two lanes of the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway in Silver Spring have reopened after a fatal accident involving a tractor trailer and two cars.
All lanes of the outer loop between Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue were closed early Monday.
Maryland State Police say a person was killed and another injured in the crash, which occurred on Interstate 495 around 2:04 a.m. Monday. The victim was taken to a local hospital, but there’s no word on their condition.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
Police say the wreck prompted an oil spill.
The closures are expected to last into rush hour as a crash reconstruction team is on the scene investigates.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
