St. Mary's car crash leaves one dead
Police are investigating a fatal collision that took place in Mechanicsville, Md., in St. Mary's County early Saturday morning.
At around 2:30 a.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a single-vehicle crash on North Sandgates Road.
The vehicle skidded off the roadway and struck two large utility poles, according to Maryland State Police. The driver has been identified as 21-year-old Kelly Marie Cox of Accokeek, Md. Cox, along with passenger Patricia Dawn Hampton, 23, of Mechanicsville, were transported to Prince George's Shock Trauma with non-life-threatening injuries.
Brittany Lynn Lanham, 23, of Mechanicsville, was pronounced dead on the scene.
There was no indication that anyone in the car was wearing a seatbelt, according to police.
The collision is still currently under police investigation.
