Stewart Funerals mishandles remains, family says
James Woodland and his sister Kia loved their father. So when he passed away on March 25 of natural causes, they wanted to take care of him the way he had taken care of them.
As he requested, they cremated his remains so that they could sprinkle them on his girlfriend's gravesite. But when they opened the box, they made an unfortunate discovery.
James and Kia say Stewart Funerals, in northeast, mishandled the cremation and that the company has refused to help them find their father's remains. So ABC7 went with them to the funeral home Friday to figure things out.
Stewart Funerals had no comment and kicked ABC7 out.
They then told the family that the remains they were given actually were their father's remains and that they were just mislabeled.
The family says the only way it can know for sure is with a DNA test.
