WASHINGTON (AP) - Two top police officials from the nation's capital say a recent trip to Israel has highlighted similarities and differences in emergency response and coping with disasters.

Diane Groomes, an assistant D.C. police chief, and Deputy Chief Robert MacLean of the United States Park Police were among law enforcement officials from around the country who visited Israel last month.

The weeklong trip was sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League and was intended to give American police a window into how Israeli police prevent and respond to terrorist attacks.

Groomes says she thinks the police in Washington are equally prepared for a disaster, but that the American public is probably less mindful of security risks than in Israel.

MacLean says some of the police tactics he witnessed might not be as accepted here.
