The legions of devoted shoppers who descend on Wegmans for their grocery shopping now have another reason to sing its praises.

The grocery chain, which has several locations in the greater D.C. area, announced Thursday that its freezing prices on 62 items that they say families buy the most during the summer. The price freeze will last until Aug. 25.

Items on the list include selling chicken breast at $1.99/pound, 30-count allergy relief medication for $3.49 and servings of Greek yogurt for 89 cents each.

"Customers have told us that it gives them peace of mind to know that prices won't change for an extended period of time," Wegmans president Colleen Wegman said.

Other items on the list include staples such as bananas, spinach and other fruits and vegetables, various types of seafood, pasta, frozen foods and cleaning supplies.

In early April, a Consumer Reports survey named Wegmans the nation's top grocery chain. It's the third straight year the chain earned the title.

Wegmans has local locations in Frederick, Lanham, Sterling, Fairfax, Fredericksburg, Leesburg and Woodbridge. Two more locations in Crofton and Columbia are set to open this Summer.
