In a Facebook post, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society announced that Meow, who was suffering from respiratory distress, died on Saturday afternoon.

"Meow had been doing so well in his foster home; walking up stairs and seeking affection; that it is so very hard to believe he is gone," the shelter said in its Facebook statement.

Meow came to fame last week when the obese cat made an appearance on Anderson last week.

Meow was only 2 years old when he passed away.
