Bicyclist dies after Maryland crash
A 48-year-old Montgomery Village woman was struck and killed while riding her bicycle in Olney early Thursday morning.
Montgomery County Fire officials say that just before 6:30 a.m., Diane M. Whitman was struck by a 2011 Toyota Camry while both were traveling eastbound on Olney-Laytonsville Road.
Whitney was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 30-year-old Heather Simmons of Damacus, was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Kevin Mell, VP of Operations at Montgomery General Hospital, says Whitman was an employee of the hospital, where she worked as a Senior Biomedical Technician.
According to Mell, the mother of two adult children biked to work everyday using the route where the accident happened.
The crash remains under investigation.
