An 8-year-old girl has died after being struck by an SUV Thursday evening, along with four other children, in Lewisdale, ABC7 News has learned.

The 8-year-old, Natalie Hernandez Cruz, was the daughter of the woman who was driving the vehicle, Marianable Cruz-Lopez, Prince George’s County Police said. Her 2-year-old son has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

Police say Cruz-Lopez accidentally backed her SUV into five children in the driveway of the Lewisdale home where she lives. A 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl were also released from the hospital. A 10-year-old boy remains in the hospital in critical, but stable condition. Police say his condition is improving.

Police said Cruz-Lopez saw the kids playing but accidentally hit the gas instead of the accelerator.

Cruz-Lopez, who is 33, is not currently being charged with anything. She was  interviewed by police.

Leading up to the accident, Cruz-Lopez was set to be evicted from the apartment she rents in the basement of a home at the accident location.

She had been outside arguing with the landlord, ABC7 has learned from Prince George’s County Police.

Cruz-Lopez called police, who came to the house and took a report on the dispute prior to the accident.

After the police left, Cruz-Lopez also left and then came back 20 minutes later, and the accident occurred as she backed into the driveway, police said.
