Bryce Harper debuts at home Tuesday against Arizona
The wait was significantly shorter than most expected, and for Washington Nationals fans, there seems to be no problem with it.
Barely a month into the 2012 season, Bryce Harper will make his home debut for the big club Tuesday night as the Nationals return home to begin a series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The 19-year-old outfielder appeared in his first Major League game on Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a double and sacrifice fly in a 3-2 loss at the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He followed that up with another 1-for-3 performance on Sunday, a game that included a dazzling catch against the wall in right-center field at Dodger Stadium that sent him careening to the ground.
“It’s better than running into the wooden wall in Syracuse,” Harper told the Washington Post.
Tuesday's opener with the Diamondbacks will give the Nationals an opportunity to break their first significant losing streak of the season. The Nats have lost four straight, but remain one-half game up on Atlanta at the top of the National League East.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Nationals Park. Jordan Zimmermann is set to pitch for Washington against Trevor Cahill.
