College Park carjacking, assault: Suspects sought
A man who told police he was assaulted and carjacked by three men in hoodies in College Park Tuesday night has been charged with giving police a false statement.
Prince George's County Police detectives discovered that the vehicle was found on fire in the 21600 block of New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring approximately 45 minutes before the alleged carjacking.
Shoaib Khan, 35, of Gaithersburg told police that three suspects robbed him of his 2008 Lexus ES350 at gunpoint at approximately 10:50 p.m. last night in the 4500 block of Hartwick Road, near the University of Maryland campus, about three blocks south of Fraternity Row
Khan said he was trying to open his car when three men, wearing hoodies, assaulted him and stole his property and the car.
Khan was charged with giving police a false statement Wednesday evening. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of six months in prison and/or $500 fine.
