Darquesha Wilkinson, Latasha Mungo arrested in JC Penney thefts
Two members of a D.C. gang were arrested Friday in connection with the theft of nearly $20,000 worth of merchandise from a Prince George's County department store.
Prince George's County Police say that 19-year-old Darquesha Shelby Wilkinson and 23-year-old Latasha Renee Mungo, both of Washington, have been charged for their roles in the theft ring.
Wilkinson and Mungo are accused of stealing more than $20,000 worth of perfume from the JC Penney store at Woodmore Town Center in Glenarden.
Police say both women are members of a gang called Check It, which is known to frequent the Chinatown Metro stop. Check It and some of its members were featured on ABC7 after turning their lives around and performing a fashion show.
"They don't hesitate," Sgt. Aubrey Thompson said. "They just go in, select items and put them in backs and walk out of the store." Thompson also said that the two would rob the store three or four times per day.
Ron Moten, co-founder of Peaceoholics, reached out to ABC7 and says Wilkinson and Mungo are not affiliated with Check It. He claims the women are members of a rival gang called Shut It Down.
