Edwin Xavier Rivas accused in Mount Rainer sexual assault

Prince George's County police have made an arrest in a January sexual assault.

Edwin Xavier Rivas, 24, was arrested May 19 in the 3100 block of Hamilton Street in Hyattsville.

Police say on January 28, 2012, officers were called a sexual assault in the 3300 block of Buchannan Street in Mount Rainer. The victim told police that as she walked down the street, a man armed with a knife came up from behind. Police say the suspect sexually assaulted the woman and left the area.

According to police, this isn't the first time Rivas has been accused in a sexual assault. He is also facing charges in Hyattsville case.

Detectives say they are investigating whether Rivas may be responsible for similar cases in the area.
