A Montgomery County father charged with killing his son is expected to be in court Monday for a bond review hearing.
Montgomery County Police say 23-year-old Matthew Eugene Price, who is listed on the Maryland Sex Offender Registry due to a conviction for forcible sexual contact with a 14- or 15-year-old victim in New Jersey, was shot to death in Gaithersburg Saturday night. His father, 55-year-old Wayne Matthew Price, who told police he shot his son, was taken into custody.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 8:44 p.m. at an apartment parking lot in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle. Officers found Matthew Price lying on the pavement in front of the building, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
Life-saving efforts by fire/rescue personnel were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Wayne Price told police that he shot his son during an altercation. Police seized the gun used in the homicide.
Wayne Price has been charged with first-degree murder. His bond review will be Monday at 1 p.m. in Rockville District Court.
The father and son both lived at that address, police say.
Matthew E. Price was convicted of a sexual offense in New Jersey in 2009. He is listed on the Maryland Sex Offender Registry with the following notation:
This criminal offense involved the forcible act of sexual contact. The registrant used excessive force while committing the crime. The victim was 14 or 15 years old at the time of the offense and the registrant was 19. The registrant was a stranger to the victim. Court records for this case do not indicate if the registrant's sexually abusive behavior happened more than once.
