A soldier from Springfield, Va. was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense says Chief Warrant Officer Five John C. Pratt, 51, died May 28 in Kabul while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Officials said the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter crashed while on patrol. Authorities were investigating the cause of the crash, but initial reports indicated there was no enemy activity in the area at the time the helicopter went down.
Pratt was assigned to the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade based in Ansbach-Katterbach, Germany.
Also killed was Captain John R. Brainard, 26, of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
