WATCH: ABC7's Horace Holmes gives us a look at how the Mall looks now and how it will look with the changes.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The nonprofit Trust for the National Mall named the winners of a design competition to overhaul three neglected sites on the expanse often called America's "front yard."
The group announced Thursday that a jury selected OLIN & Weiss/Manfredi to redesign the Washington Monument grounds. They designed a wooded canopy to define a new amphitheater near the Washington Monument.
A new pavilion with a cafe would include a walkway to the nearby Tidal Basin.
Rogers Marvel Architects and Peter Walker and Partners will transform Constitution Gardens near the Lincoln Memorial. They're designing an overhauled water basin for model boats and ice skating.
A new restaurant pavilion overlooks the park.
A third team's design to overhaul Union Square and the Capitol Reflecting Pool will be sent to the Capitol's architect.
