Lashieka Harmon charged with felony child neglect
A babysitter in Stafford County is facing multiple felony child neglect charges after authorities found three children playing unattended near a fast food restaurant this past Saturday.
Authorities say the babysitter, 22-year-old Lasheika Harmon of North Stafford, was caring for four children at a home near Warrenton Road over the weekend when police say a 7-year-old kid showed up unsupervised at a nearby Taco Bell.
Joann Cole, the manager on duty at the Taco Bell at the time, said it nearly broke her heart when she saw the child walk up to a customer in the restaurant's drive through.
"I asked him, 'Are you OK?' and he said, 'No, I'm lost,'" Cole said.
Meanwhile, nearby, two of the child's siblings, aged 6 and 4, were found by sheriff's deputies in a nearby field. Officials say that Harmon sent them out to play and thought they had been gone for only about 15 minutes.
"In reality, they were out for quite a bit longer, but not only outside playing," Stafford County Sheriff Bill Kennedy said. "They had left the area."
Officials say that the boys walked down a busy two-lane road, and when the oldest child got to the Taco Bell, he was overheated and scared.
The children have been returned to their mother, while Harmon continues to stay in an area jail.
