ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland lawmakers have been appointed to a task force to study the impact of a court ruling by the state's highest court on pit bulls.

Appointments to the task force were announced in a letter on Tuesday by House Speaker Michael Busch and Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller.

The task force is in response to a Court of Appeals last month ruling that pit bulls are an inherently dangerous breed.

The ruling means that when an attack involves a pit bull, plaintiffs in civil lawsuits don't have to prove the animal's prior violent behavior for the owner to be held liable for damages.
