Police bust prostitution ring at BWI, led by 19-year-old
WATCH: ABC7's Roz Plater has the latest in the video.
Police have made a big arrest in a prostitution ring that spans from California to Maryland.
And the ringleader is only 19 years old, police say.
Anne Arundel County Police say the California teen is suspected of running a prostitution ring right out of hotels around the BWI Thurgood Marshall airport.
And police tell ABC7 they've been targeting prostitution operations here for months.
Investigators say they've seen a spike in the sex trade in the airport's hotel district.
The sex workers seem to prefer hotels with outside entrances to the rooms. And they advertise their erotic services on a social media site, boldly telling travelers they are operating in the BWI Hotel District.
Off camera, some hotel managers told us they recently met with police and are cooperating in the crackdown.
But one business owner says she doesn't understand what all the current fuss is about. She says prostitutes have worked this area for years.
Police say they've made these most recent arrests based on tips from the public.
