For the second time in a week, the cover of a major American news magazine is making waves, and it's for an entirely different reason.

The cover story for the upcoming edition of Newsweek is a piece written by Andrew Sullivan, an openly-gay political columnist, who declares that President Barack Obama is the first 'gay president.'

Sullivan's story comes in the days after President Obama told ABC's Robin Roberts that his personal views on gay marriage had changed and that he now supported the rights for same-sex couples to wed.

As Yahoo!'s The Ticket blog reports, Sullivan says that President Obama's remarks made him extremely emotional.

"He let go of fear," Sullivan writes in an excerpt of the story published on The Ticket. "He is clearly prepared to let the political chips fall as they may."

Another political columnist, Charles Babington of the Associated Press, called Obama's stance a "watershed moment in U.S. politics."

The stunning cover image comes on the heels of Time publishing a story about attachment parenting, which featured a woman breastfeeding hear nearly 4-year-old child.

The statement resembles the one that writer Toni Morrison made in 1998, when she called Bill Clinton "the first black president" in a commentary published in the New Yorker.
