The Capitol Hill block centered around the intersection of 12th and C streets NE is regularly filled with children playing, joggers, pedestrians and all sorts of other people.

Residents say, though, that each and every one of them is in danger, because drivers simply aren't observing a stop sign.

"Running here keeps me on my toes in terms of trying to dodge traffic," D.C. resident Courtney Cochrane said.

Those who live in the area say the problem is nothing new, and after observing the intersection for just a short time, you're sure to see someone blow through the intersection.

"I see people running the stop sign all the time," resident Kelvin McClinton said. "I've seen cars skidding, people running, the whole gamut of things."

The introduction of the stop signs at 12th and C has significantly reduced the number of accidents at the intersection, however, many drivers seemingly haven't even noticed the addition.

"I think a lot of people who are coming through don't know about it," neighborhood resident Sara Mokhtari said.

An MPD spokesperson tells ABC 7 that they will make sure the District commander knows about the situation, a step that residents say is in the right direction.

"We have four children, so being able to cross safely is important to us," resident Kristin Rabineau said. "Enforcement would be great."
